i.e. "What's in it for me?"
Emergency Physicians often exist in isolation of one another. We work odd hours, weekends and nights, which makes it difficult to communicate with each other. Even my partners are like ships passing in the night. Our time off is also at odd times, often when the kids are in school and there is nothing good on TV. This fact of our practices makes it difficult for the majority of us to ever attend a meeting of the Kansas Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. On the occasions when I have been able to attend, few of our members are there, but the information I find out is always worth the time.
So how do those of us who are up all night on our “days” off break this isolation and communicate with our fellow emergency physicians? Voila! Via a Web Site! So, when you want to find out if anybody else is having a problem with their hospital administration, has noticed that their salary is shrinking, or find that working nights seem to go slower and slower, come to this web site and commiserate with your colleagues throughout Kansas. On the other hand, if someone expresses a concern on the discussion board, give them your opinion on their topic. The discussion board is password protected, so only other emergency physicians can view it. So advertise your job, look for a job, find out how others handle specific situations, complain, and, compliment on the discussion board. Pass along useful articles and other files on the “Documents” page. Bookmark this site and log on once in awhile just to see what’s up.
